Ranthambore
National Park is
situated in India. s northwestern state of Rajasthan,
near the town of Sawai Madhopur, midway between
Bharatpur and Kota townships. It is surrounded by the
Vindhya and Aravali hill ranges and is very near to the
outer fringes of the Thar Desert. The entire area has
sprawling tracts of the desert and semi-desert
vegetation. Originally a hunting ground of the Maharaja
of Jaipur, Ranthambore was declared a game sanctuary in
1955. In 1980, it became a national park and listed
among the reserves protected under Project Tiger (1973).
Presently the Kaila Devi Sanctuary, also famous for its
tigers, and Mansingh Sanctuary also form part of
Ranthambore Reserve.
The Sariska Tiger Reserve is an Indian National
Park located in the Alwar District of the state of
Rajasthan. Originally a hunting preserve of the
erstwhile Alwar state, the area was declared a wildlife
reserve in 1955. In 1978 it was declared a Tiger Reserve
and is now a part of India's Project Tiger scheme.
The Keoladeo National Park in Rajasthan, India is
a famous avifauna sanctuary that sees thousands of rare
and highly endangered birds such as the Siberian Crane
come here during the winter season. Over 230 species of
birds are known to have made the National Park their
home. It is also a major tourist centre with scores of
ornithologists arriving here in the hibernal season.
Corbett National Park is India's oldest national
park, located near Nainital in Uttaranchal, and with
administrative centre in the town of Ramnagar. The park
is known for its diverse wildlife, and as the site for
the launching of Project Tiger. The Corbett National
Park and the adjoining Sonanadi Sanctuary form the
Corbett Tiger Reserve.
Kanha National Park, part of Project Tiger, is
located in Madhya Pradesh, India. In the 1930s, the
Kanha area was divided into two sanctuaries, Hallon and
Banjar, of 250 and 300 km² each. Kanha National Park
was created on 1 June 1955. The nearest airport and
railhead is at Jabalpur, around 175 km away.
Bandhavgarh National Park is located in Umaria
district of Madhya Pradesh state in India. Bandhavgarh
was declared a national park in 1968 with an area of 105
km.
The density of the tiger population at Bandhavgarh is
the highest known in India. This is also white tiger
country.
Periyar Tiger Reserve is one of the 27 tiger
reserves in India. Periyar is a protected area, and a
Project Tiger nature reserve in the South Indian State
of Kerala, set high in the mountains of the Western
Ghats at the border to Tamil Nadu.

Tiger Reserve is located in the Western Ghats in Idukki
District of the Kerala state in India. The terrain of
the Reserve is undulating and the drainage is dendrite. |
